Hot dogs, sushi and now licorice are pregnancy no-no's

Maybe it’s not as high on the craving list for pregnant women as ice cream, but there must be some who are bummed that licorice is now considered a no-no.

Women who ate licorice while pregnant had children with lower IQs than children whose mothers ate little or no licorice, according to a study published this month in the American Journal of Epidemiology.

The FDA and the World Health Organization have no warnings against licorice or glycyrrhizin — the sweetener that naturally occurs in the licorice plant and is considered a danger during pregnancy, according to Live Science.
