Winter is over, right?
At least it feels that way when you’re living in metro Phoenix. The afternoons turn warm and parents don’t have to worry about keeping track of the kids’ jackets.
It’s the perfect time to get outdoors and keep money in your pocket. We’ve rounded up three of the best free outdoor activities for kids in February 2017.
Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show, Feb. 16-26
The annual event that bring the world’s most beautiful champion Arabians to Scottsdale is free for children ages 12 and younger. Adults pay $10 and can stay all day and into the night. Among the events for kids are the free behind-the-scene barn tours, pony rides and a petting zoo, meet an Arabian visits, wildlife and animal displays, dog demonstrations, paint-a-ceramic pony and an ice cream social. Diamondbacks Fan Fest, Feb. 18
Fans of all ages can see current Arizona Diamondbacks players up close and personal at the 13th annual Subway D-backs Fan Fest. The event includes autograph and photo ops with players, coaches, alumni and broadcasters. Check website for times.

Canal Convergence: Water + Art + Light, Feb. 23-26
Scottsdale Public Art’s Canal Convergence seems to try and out-perform itself every year. This year, 10 major exhibitions in, on or around the Scottsdale Canal will have kids oohing and ahhing with giant, glowing, interactive sculptures and performances. Live music and dance and art workshops are also part of the fun.
